We Cebuanos are very talented. Be it acting or singing, we excel in every field we are in.

There are very talented celebrities in the mainstream who are Cebuanos. Let’s see who they are:

 1. Caridad Sanchez

Known for her role as an outspoken grandmother, hails from Mandaue, Cebu. She used to go to Abellana High School and already showed a talent in acting when she was young. She landed her first role in the Visayan film, “Dimacaling” during the mid-50’s.

2. Pilita Corrales

Pilita Corrales was born in Lahug, Cebu City from a Spanish father and Cebuana mother. She left her mark by becoming the to make it to the Australian pop charts with a local recording called “Come Closer to Me”. She has two children, Jackie Lou Blanco and Ramon Christopher “Monching” Gutierrez.

3. Matteo Guidicelli

Known for his roles in “Agua Bendita” and “My Binondo Girl”, this half-Italian actor (that’s the reason why his last name is hard to spell) hails from Cebu City and the of the late Supreme Court Chief Justice and Senate President Marcelo Fernan.

4. Gloria Sevilla

A native of Sibonga, earned the title “Queen of Visayan Movie Land” for having starred in most of the Visayan-made movies in the 50’s and 60’s. She is the mother of actress Suzette Ranillo, actor Mat Ranillo III, and singer-composer Dandin Ranillo. She can be seen in the popular daytime drama, “Be Careful With My Heart”.

5. Vina Morales

Along with her younger sister Shaina Magdayao, Sharon Magdayao, or more popularly known as , grew up in Bogo, Cebu. While singing in a church choir, Fr. Fritz Malinao recognized her talent and made her join Cebu Pop Music Festival. Vina sang Fr. Malinao’s composition, “Paglaum”, which won the Grand Prize. This was the start of her colorful career when she was discovered by Viva Films.

Born in Cebu (with Spanish roots on his dad’s side) but grew up in Manila, shyly admits he can only speak a few words in Cebuano. He’s no stranger to his birthplace and his mother’s hometown though, since his family consistently spends the Holy Week and Christmas breaks here in Cebu. He currently stars in “Mirabella”, alongside Julia Barretto and Sam Concepcion.

7. Ellen Adarna

is the eldest child of the owner of the chain of Queensland Motels in Cebu, Manila and Davao. As a sexy actress, she got everyone’s attention with her exercise video and now  stars in the Kapamilya afternoon drama, “Moon of Desire”.

8. Manilyn Reynes

She showed her talent in singing at a very young age, joining different singing contests in Cebu. had her first film “To Mama with Love” at the age of 10. She became a favorite cast of the popular variety show That’s Entertainment and married fellow actor Aljon Jimenez.
