Chiongbian placed second in the Boys 13-14 after clocking 32 minutes and 13 seconds. He trailed Arno Baetz who topped the category with his time of 31:32 and was 29 seconds ahead of Brent Valelo who salvaged third place.

The 13-year-old Chiongbian was third out of the water. He gained second place in the bike ride and held the position in the run.

Mataragnon, for her part, made most out of her last Alaska IronKids race by finally making podium. She placed third with her time of 36:25 trailing first placer Nicole Danielle Eijansantos (34:47) and second placer Loren Justine Plaza (35:54).

Mataragnon, who is turning 15 years old, did not have a good swim but she made up for it in the bike and run.

“I really prayed hard that I would enter the top 3. I really trained hard, did abstinence, no junk food, chocolates and sacrificed time with my studies,” Mataragnon said.

So, who plans to take a break from the sport, crossed the finish line in 17:38 earning him second place in the Boys 9-10.

“I feel very happy because it is my first time to get a podium,” said So who finished fifth in his first Alaska IronKids competition in 2012.

Yu and Bersabal both placed second in the 6-8 category. Yu clocked 19:58 in the boys division while Bersabal finished the race in 22:51 in the girls division.
