Cebu netters ruled the 1st leg of the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Tennis Association (PSC-PHILTA) Visayas Junior Tennis Championships which came to an end last Thursday at the courts of the CITCI-Consolacion Tennis Club in Laray, Consolacion, north of Cebu.

The Cebuanos won six of the nine titles on hand in this Group 2-sanctioned tournament.

Leading the Cebuano charge was University of San Carlos’ Jan Godfrey Seno, who clinched two titles via the 18 and 16 Under Boys.

For the 18 Under Boys title, Seno lambasted fellow Cebuano Clyde Bienes, 6-2, 6-1, while he survived the challenge put up by Manila’s Manuel Balce III, 6-3, 7-5, for the 16 Under Boys title.

In the 14 Under category, Zethley Mae Alferez and Clyde John Laquio overcame fellow Cebuanos to rule their respective divisions.

Alferez outsmarted Kristin Renee Salimbangon while Laquio survived a three-set finals against Francis Gener Lambayan, 2-6, 6-3,6-3.

Completing the Cebuano title holders were Jace Christian Unto and Mariel Ann Villa in the 12 Under category, also against Cebuano opponents.

Unto pocketed the Boys title with a straight sets defeat of Cesar Kristoffer Salimbangon, 6-0, 6-0, while Villa grabbed the Girls title against Ellaine Rose Bahonsua, 6-1, 6-1.

Other winners in the tournament were Davao’s John David Velez and Manila’s Erika Manduriao.

Manduriao clinched two titles—the 16 and 18 Under Girls. She defeated Jana Pages of Cebu, 6-1, 6-1, for the 16 Under Girls title and fellow Manileno Ma. Dominique Ong, 6-2, 6-1, for the 18 Under Girls title.

Velez, for his part, went home with the 10 Under Unisex title after demolishing Eric Louise Longakit of Cebu 6-0, 6-2 in the finals.
