If there is one thing that the Cebuanos are exceptional at, that would be singing. Want proof?
Wait! If I am to mention all of them, they will not fit in this page!
So where could we find the singers who will follow the path of these established music artists? Last week, I figured out where to find them.
The next big stars can be found in the Sinulog Idol and Cebu Pop Music Festival! I had the opportunity to see and hear the next big thing myself. The voices of all the finalists from both contests were amazing!
I was able to see the fourth night of Sinulog Idol last January 13, 2014. I did not expect anything when I came but I brought home with me a deeper respect for our Cebuano artists and judges. The voices of the finalists blew me away. Out of the 12 finalists, only one made it to the top!
Sinulog Idol 2014
Mikko Fulgencio, my nursing colleague from Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center was the winner of the fourth judging night. Shiver me timber! His voice made my jaws dropped! Want some evidence?
As for the Grand Finals last January 16, 2014, here’s what happened.
Who were the Top 3 finalists?
2nd Runner Up: Rayllyne Alicaya
1st Runner Up: Sheila Bucog
Grand Champion: Claudio Deiparine
Aside from the Sinulog Idol, the 34th Cebu Popular Music Festival gave me goosebumps, too! It even instilled a last song syndrome (LSS) in my brain when I was going home.
The big winners announced last January 17 were:
Best in Interpretation: Jacqueline Bual for Ayaw Akog Biyai
Best Dance Music: I Love Cebu by Russel Alegado
Best in Folk Music: Laylay sa Bukid by Ronil Vincent Watin and Yoogin Raye Anthony
Best in Pop Ballad: Ayaw Akog Biyai by Jade Castro
Honestly, while I was in the taxi, I kept on singing “I Love Cebu!” Why not? It was very catchy!
To all the finalists and winners of Sinulog Idol 2014 and the 34th Cebu Popular Music Festival, the entire staff of tenminutes.ph would like to congratulate you. We are very proud of you!
