On May 30, the 8th Gabii sa Kabilin or Night of Heritage will once more delight us with moments of history that we all can be proud of.
It will be my second time to join such an event and I’m a bit excited.
Just like last year, there are four participating cities: Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay and Lapu-Lapu.www.facebook.com/rafi.org.ph
I’m in the process of choosing which participating sites and museums to visit.
If you’re wondering what are the heritage sites and museums that are part of the program this Friday, take a quick look at the video below.
Nice list, don’t you agree?
By the way, if you want to look back down memory lane, I have some wonderful photos to show you.
Here ‘ya go!
It was just a two-storey building back then.
Today, the area where the original building was built is a four-storey structure and behind it is the expansion area where most public transactions are made.
The church was not symmetrical back then.
The cathedral is currently being repaired and restored due to old age and the damages it has incurred during the strong earthquake last year.
This could have been one of oldest buildings in the Philippines…
…but is now replaced with a modern one.
Not a hint of heavy traffic in sight!
Looks like it lost its old luster. Time to bring it back, don’t you think?
Southern Islands Hospital
It was just a small hospital back then…
It is now a a tertiary hospital called Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. It has recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. I used to work there as a nurse. (Giggles!)
Here’s the Malacañang sa Sugbo now. It was also damaged during the strong earthquake last year.
Here’s how it looks like now. It is known more as the venue for the Sinulog Festival and the house of Dancesport Cebu.

It is now called Cathedral Museum of Cebu and it houses numerous artifacts, old statues and belongings of Cardinal Vidal.
Back in the 90s, it was a place where you can go and enjoy roller skates.
I find solitude here. The spaces are wide and its peaceful!
You’re safe because there are police patrolling the area.
I totally love the renovation done by the Cebu City Government!
What a trip down memory lane, right?
Did you enjoy the old photos?
Oh they were lovely, right?
